Tasoula Georgiou Hadjitofi joins us to discuss her memoir, The Icon Hunter: A Refugee’s Quest to Reclaim Her Nation’s Stolen Heritage. Hadjitofi tells the story of how hundreds of churches were looted and destroyed during the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus. The invasion also turned Hadjitofi and her family into refugees. Hadjitofi later devoted herself to infiltrating the underground world of art trafficking in order to return the looted antiquities to their rightful owners.
Tasoula Georgiou Hadjitofi will appear at the Astoria Bookshop (31-29 31st St. in Astoria) on April 25 from 7-8 p.m.
